01 — "Overview"

Short, brandable .com names are finite. Buying expired or undervalued names and listing them on marketplaces can yield occasional big sales.

02 — "The Crash Course"

  1. Step 01

    Study what sells

Browse NameBio for recent sales. Short .coms, one-word names, and clear two-word brandables sell best.

  2. Step 02

    Set strict buy rules

Pronounceable, spellable, no hyphens or numbers, .com only at first. Budget $10–$100 per name.

  3. Step 03

    Source expired names

DropCatch, ExpiredDomains.net, GoDaddy Auctions. Filter by age and backlinks.

  4. Step 04

    List everywhere

Afternic (reaches GoDaddy registrars), Dan.com and Sedo. Use 'Buy it now' prices plus make-offer.

  5. Step 05

    Price for real buyers

Most sales are $500–$5,000 to small businesses. Don't list everything at $50k.

  6. Step 06

    Outbound some names

Find businesses using a similar name (e.g. 'getbrand.com' users) and email a short offer.

  7. Step 07

    Prune yearly

Drop names with no inquiries after 2 renewals. Renewal costs are the business's hidden expense.

"The math"

Portfolio of 100 names at ~$12/year renewals = $1,200/year. 2–3 sales at $1,500–$3,000 = $3k–$9k/year.

03 — "How people lose"

Buying hundreds of mediocre names and bleeding on renewals. A 1% annual sell-through is normal — keep portfolio quality high.
